Apple Zeppole teamed with Spicy Mocha..

I dont know whether i have mentioned this before or not, having come to the US has defenitely made my cooking a lot more easier. When i was in Chennai, India ; i used to get sooo disapppointed by seeing many of those wonderful recipes…simply because, i was sure that even if i wanted to, i will never get half of the ingredients in the stores there…sometimes, i used to look for substitutes and make the recipe…but still that thought lingers in my mind as to how that dish wouldve tasted, had i used the original ingredients…

This is yet another recipe ( just the Apple Zeppole, the mocha is my own creation!! šŸ˜‰ ) from Food Network thanks to Everyday Italian!!!

Apple Zeppole with Cinnamon whipped cream for dip and Spicy Mocha for a sip…

Apple Zeppole with Cinnamon whipped cream

I used : 2 medium sized apples ( peeled and grated), 1/4 cup sugar ( i used splenda), 1/2 stick butter, 1/2 cup water, 1 cup flour, a little salt, 4 eggs, olive oil

Mix in butter, salt, sugar and water and bring them to a boil. Take the saucepan off the stove and stir in the flour. Place it back on the stove and stir continuously for about 2 mins. Take it off the stove again and add the eggs one by one, while whipping the mix continuously.Add the grated apple and mix well. Heat olive oil for deep frying and fry small balls of the mixture, just like fritters. I think my mix became a little watery, hence couldnt exactly get them into small balls..but hey, i managed to fry them , even if they flattened out and they turned out to be great.
Serve hot with some whipped cream sprinkled with cinnamon, as dip.

Spicy Mocha

Mix about a tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder to some warm water. Boil one cup of milk with some heavy cream. Lower the heat and add a heaped teaspoon of instant coffee powder. Stir well and add the cocoa powder mixed in water. Add sugar to taste and about 1/2 tsp of cinnamon and some grated nutmeg.

mmmm…that was one hot drink to go with the zeppole on a cold snowy afternoon… šŸ™‚

Also, this goes for Mansi’s GAME NIGHT PARTY event…. i am not very sure whether this is exactly a game party kinda food…but then, anything fried goes rt?!?!?!!!! šŸ™‚ Hope she accepts this..

Apple fritters are a great party finger food, but they would work as a breakfast treat or afternoon pick-me-up, too. : )
